Birmingham Challenge Cup Final Preview | Wolves vs Rugby Borough | First women’s team | News

Wolves Women take on Rugby Borough in the Birmingham Challenge Cup final at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night.

Dan McNamara’s side are in the final of the competition for the third consecutive season and have successfully lifted the trophy for the last two.

Victory over West Bromwich Albion at Walsall in 2022 was followed last year when the Old Gold beat Stourbridge at Molineux to be crowned champions in back-to-back seasons.

Wolves are aiming for a third title this time around and come into the game on the back of eight wins from their last nine league outings, but they have Rugby Borough in the way.

Wolves edged past Sutton Coldfield Town, Boldmere St Michaels and West Brom on penalties to book their place at the Pirelli.

A late equalizer from Jade Cross was needed in the semi-final before Wolves reclaimed bragging rights over their rivals with a penalty shootout victory.

Meanwhile, Rugby Borough, who finished third in the Southern Premier Division, had to overcome Lye Town, Stourbridge and Aston Villa on their way to the final.

Formerly Coventry United, Borough have won the competition twice before under their Coventry name in 2017/18 and 2018/19.
