The “impossible to kill” plant that can remove mold from your bathroom

Bathrooms, unfortunately, create the perfect environment for mold to thrive due to their high humidity levels. Instead of resorting to vigorous scrubbing or using bleach that can kill your bathroom, a simple houseplant could be the solution you need.

High-end retailer Sanctuary Bathrooms may have the answer to any struggling bathroom. The solution is the spider plant – something it says is your best bet for fighting mold growth in the bathroom, the Express reports.

Spider plants are suggested as they are quite resistant to temperature changes. That means they won’t mind the heat of a steamy shower, and they also do well in low light.

Not only do these air purifying plants remove harmful toxins and pollutants, but they are also incredibly hardy and “pretty much impossible to kill.” That’s why spider plants are hailed as “the perfect low-maintenance bathroom plant,” although they’re not the only option for fighting mold. Other plants that can help keep mold at bay include ferns, bamboo, peace lilies, aloe vera, English ivy, and snake plants.

James Roberts, director of Sanctuary Bathrooms, said: “When selecting the ideal plant for your bathroom, evaluating the space is essential.”

Mr Roberts said bathrooms with little natural light, such as private rooms, WCs or cloakrooms, needed plants that could thrive in low-light environments. On the other hand, he said, larger bathrooms, often found in homes with multiple occupants, such as a family bathroom, are better suited for plants that need more sunlight.

He said: β€œIn smaller bathrooms or when looking to spruce up shelving or vanity areas, opting for smaller potted plants can add a touch of greenery without overwhelming limited space. Carefully evaluating the lighting, size and humidity levels of your bathroom can select the perfect plant to enhance the ambiance of your space.”
