Jay Slater “so bad at the rave the waitress even gave him water” before he disappeared

A waitress claimed Jay Slater, 19, appeared unsteady on his feet in the hours before he disappeared. Speaking to the Sun, the Papagayo nightclub worker said the teenager looked sick.

Jay was last seen at the club in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife, three weeks ago. She said: “I remembered Jay because he was unsteady on his feet. I gave him some water for free because he didn’t look good.”

She added: “I remembered him, my boyfriend called me in the morning and said he’s gone. I recognized his photo straight away. I feel so sad, it feels very close to home because I have his age. I feel so much for his family.”

After leaving the rave with two men, Jay returned to their Airbnb, which was an 11-hour drive from where he was staying. He left the next morning intending to catch a bus but ended up walking instead.

He called his friend Lucy around 8am, saying his phone was almost dead and he was thirsty. His family and a group of volunteers are now carrying out searches after police halted the official land hunt on June 30, reports Birmingham Live.

Dad Warren expressed his family’s sense of abandonment and when asked if he would appreciate assistance from UK police, he said: “We would love that, it’s just not that simple.”

He continued: “So far we’ve been in touch with the British consulate here who said it’s still a live investigation, we just have to sit tight. This really adds to the despair.”
