Sainsbury’s Newquay store is closing due to police ‘incident’

A police ‘incident’ led to the closure of Sainsbury’s in Newquay yesterday afternoon, July 12, for the rest of the day. A police cordon was in place.

The superstore at The Whim in Alma Place reopened this morning, July 13. It has not been confirmed why police were called to the premises or the nature of the incident.




An investigation is said to be ongoing by Devon and Cornwall Police.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “Our store in Newquay has been temporarily closed following an incident which occurred late on Friday afternoon. The store reopened as normal on Saturday morning and we are supporting the police in their investigation.”

Devon and Cornwall Police have been contacted for comment.
