Man wanted for attempted murder in 2001 who disappeared and was never seen again

More than two decades ago, a huge manhunt was launched to find Luke Anderson for his suspected role in the attempted murder of a doctor outside a West Midlands hotel. His photo was widely distributed as part of a massive public appeal, including a broadcast on the BBC’s Crimewatch, which at the time attracted millions of viewers.

But despite attempts by West Midlands Police to find them, Anderson, just a teenager at the time, disappeared. It remains in the wind today, at 23 years old.

What happened to him, where he went and where he is today remains a mystery that has baffled detectives for over two decades. Anderson remains one of our region’s most wanted suspects, our investigation found, and it appears unlikely he will ever be found.

Detectives named Anderson as their prime suspect in connection with the near-fatal attack on Dr Khurshid Naqvi outside the Falcon Hotel in Manor Road, Coventry, in March 2001. He was just 19 at the time and would have turned 42 today – much of his life still before. by him.

But the suspect went to ground – and never resurfaced. Detectives have no doubt explored the possibility that he may be living abroad and it is likely that he will bear little resemblance to the young man in the photo released in 2001.

WMP confirmed Anderson remained a wanted suspect following a Freedom of Information request by BirminghamLive. They told us: “Luke Anderson is wanted in connection with an attempted murder in 2001.
