Report: Dodgers bolster bullpen, claim waivers

The Dodgers aim to strengthen their bullpen while putting together a pitching staff that has been plagued by injuries all season. MLB Network’s Mark Feinsand reported Saturday that Los Angeles claimed Brent Honeywell off waivers.

Honeywell, 29, has appeared in 45 games in the 2021 season. He has a career 4.95 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 28 walks in 60.0 innings. He has a typical fastball, slider, sweeper, changeup arsenal, but also throws a screwball about 3.3 percent of the time, according to Baseball Savant.

While Honeywell struggled in 2021 and 2023, he had a 2.70 ERA in two appearances for the Pirates before being waived this season.

LA has leaned heavily on its bullpen while fixing some issues in its starting rotation this year, so it makes sense to add another reliever to the bullpen, especially one who doesn’t have a ton of innings on his arm in this season.
