Liverpool face Jose Mourinho’s hurdle with Man United’s transfer battle as position emerges

The wait continues for Liverpool to announce their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot has completed his first week of pre-season training as Liverpool’s new head coach. The Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield hot seat this summer and is assessing the Reds’ squad ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool have been linked with several potential new signings this summer but are yet to add any new players to their squad. The Reds have until September 2 to complete their transfer business before the window reopens in January.

Liverpool have been credited with an interest in signing Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu. According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Reds are among a host of clubs considering a move for the versatile defender this summer.

The report states that Liverpool are set to compete with Manchester United, Newcastle and Juventus for Kadioglu’s signature, while Arsenal have previously been linked. However, it has been claimed that Man United are ahead of the Reds in the race to sign the left-back, who is also capable of developing at centre-back or right-back.

Fenerbahce, who have Jose Mourinho as their new manager, are said to have put a €30m (£25m) price tag on Kadioglu’s signature this summer.

Elsewhere, Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. According to HITC, the Reds – along with Manchester City and Arsenal – have received approaches from the Georgia international’s representatives regarding a move this summer.

The report also states that Napoli have received contact from unnamed Premier League clubs with inquiries about signing Kvaratskhelia. However, it has been claimed that the Serie A club have rejected the approaches as they are determined to keep hold of the striker beyond this summer.
