Traffic is heavy on the M1 as the crash closes two lanes near Meadowhall

A crash has blocked two lanes of a major South Yorkshire motorway.

Traffic is backed up on the M1 southbound from junction 35 of the A629 Cowley Hill to junction 34 of the A631 Tinsley Viaduct. Traffic is moving in four out of four lanes, the Inrix traffic system said.




Inrix said: “Two lane closures, queues and delays due to accident on M1 southbound at J35 A629 Cowley Hill ( Rotherham / Chapeltown) to J34 A631 Tinsley Viaduct (Meadowhall). Traffic moves to lane four (out of four).”

The severity of the accident is not clear at this stage and it is not known if there are any casualties. YorkshireLive has contacted South Yorkshire Police for comment in the hope they can provide more information.

All lanes reopened but severe delays

Inrix said: “Severe delays and queues due to earlier accident on the M1 Southbound at J35 A629 Cowley Hill (Rotherham / Chapeltown) to J34 A631 Tinsley Viaduct (Meadowhall).

“All lanes have reopened. The delays are also not helped by an earlier breakdown on this stretch.”

Two closed lanes

Inrix Traffic System said: “Two lane closures, queues and delays due to accident on M1 Southbound at J35 A629 Cowley Hill (Rotherham / Chapeltown) to J34 A631 Tinsley Viaduct (Meadowhall).

“Traffic is going through lane four (of four).”
