A new Bolton Wanderers fanzone, a new train platform and two huge multi-million pound projects were unveiled this week.

Wanderers fans could soon have a stage, mini-football pitch, food and drink stalls and a games area to go to in their new fanzone if the latest plans are approved. Then, just a few blocks away in Greater Manchester in Rochdale, plans for a new manufacturing and research facility have just been unveiled.

This would be placed within the long-awaited Atom Valley project, which aims to bring thousands of new jobs to the city-region.

Moving south of the area, a new platform has been proposed for Salford Crescent station and a block of flats for more than 200 homes has been proposed for Stockport.

The city’s £250 million scheme to revamp the center has also moved a step closer to becoming a reality after a new report was published.

Bolton Wanderers’ improved ‘fan zone’ promises ‘more than football’

A new and improved Bolton Wanderers ‘fanzone’ could include a stage, a mini-football pitch, food and drink stalls and a games area

Proposals have been submitted for the attraction, outside Toughsheet Stadium, ahead of the new season. The club says it will become a “cornerstone of the stadium’s offering”.

The Fanzone is located to the west of the stadium, near the main entrance and the family stand. It is on 0.5 acre, close to Burnden Way.

Bid to convert part of Grade II listed bank building into flats

The flats could be built on the top floor of one of Bolton’s most prominent buildings.

A planning application was submitted this week to turn part of the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Deansgate into flats. The building, which is Grade II listed and dates back to 1875, has been empty since the bank moved out more than two years ago.

The proposals would see the second floor of the building converted into five one-bedroom flats, four of which are occupied by two people and the other property is occupied individually. The applicant, SAR Developments, said “demand for this size of single-tenant building is low,” so it plans to convert it into a mixed-use building, with the ground and first floors retained for commercial use.

The stop-start Victorian warehouse conversion project could finally be on the move

An amended planning application to convert two town center Victorian warehouses into flats was given the go-ahead this week, eight years after it was first proposed.

Mindel House and 11 Bloom Street are both Grade II listed warehouses built in the late 19th century. Plans to transform the buildings near Minshull Street Crown Courts were first submitted by Beech Holdings in 2016, with planning permission eventually granted by the council in 2020. But with previous contractor Manchester Design and Build, went into administration last November, work stalled.

The updated application, with Russell WBHO on board as contractor and Horizon Fletcher Rae as architects, contains minor changes to the application developed through a “conservation-led approach and with attention to the impact on the heritage significance of the buildings”.

Oldham

Oldham Council received no large-scale planning applications this week. The submitted plans include converting an outbuilding into a flat on Tamecroft Farm, demolishing a conservatory and installing a heat pump.

Rochdale

Plans for a huge new science and manufacturing center in Atom Valley have been revealed

Plans have been submitted for an advanced sustainable materials and manufacturing center in the highly anticipated Atom Valley.

The new Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing Center (SMMC) proposal tabled would have a net floor area of ​​2,724m2, be located at Kingsway Business Park’s Metrolink tram station and include laboratory space, workshops, metrology space, design studios design and analysis.

A lecture hall, meeting rooms, flexible workspace for start-ups, office space for makers and a cafe are also included in the plans submitted by applicants Wilson Bowden Developments, Rochdale Development Agency, Borough Council Rochdale and Homes England.

Stockport Council has published an environmental impact report of a plan to build more office and retail space on land around King Street West, near the viaduct.
