A plaque commemorating Barnet’s oldest councilor has been installed in a Golders Green park.

The plaque dedicated to former Golders Green councilor Melvin Cohen, who served on the council for 40 years and had two terms as borough mayor, was installed last month.

Conservative group Barnet said the plaque – which was put in place after Cllr Cohen’s son Cllr Dean Cohen and group leader Cllr Peter Zinkin worked with the council’s parks team – “stands as a testament to the lasting impact of Cllr Cohen on the community”.

An official unveiling ceremony will take place in the coming weeks.
