Leeds United are looking to address their key transfer needs by poaching their rivals’ first-choice option

Right-backs are thin on the pitch at Thorp Arch at the moment, but Leeds United are working to solve that problem with Jayden Bogle as a target. The Sheffield United defender is in the final year of his contract at Bramall Lane and someone the Whites would like to add to their ranks.

As first reported by The Telegraph, Bogle is appealing to Daniel Farke and the Elland Road hierarchy after seeing their stock of right-backs dwindle to a senior option. Sam Byram is also needed at left-back and in the current depth chart at United, underscoring the need for troops in full-back roles.

Bogle appeals as a 23-year-old with room for improvement after six seasons in England’s top two divisions alongside a precarious contract situation in South Yorkshire. It is unclear if an offer has yet been submitted to the Blades, but Bogle was involved in their friendly at York City on Saturday afternoon.

A complicating factor in any transaction coming in and out of Bramall Lane at the moment is the takeover process the club is going through. Chris Wilder has managed to add free agents Jamie Shackleton and Sam McCallum to his Sheffield ranks, but reports from the Steel City suggest further signings are on hold while takeover talks are ongoing.

With Bogle’s contract expiring next June, he will leave for free next summer unless he is sold or agrees new terms. Leeds will be hoping the threat makes the Blades more willing to secure a seven-figure fee by negotiating with them, but the prospect of directly strengthening what could be a promotion rival is not lost on anyone.
