Bocelli serenades Leicester champions

Renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli treated the King Power Stadium to a rousing pre-match performance ahead of Leicester City being crowned Premier League champions on Saturday. The 57-year-old Italian was led onto a stage in the center of the pitch by compatriot Claudio Ranieri, the Leicester manager, where he performed ‘Nessun Dorma’ and ‘Time to Say Goodbye’. Fans waved blue and white flags as Bocelli sang and roared in approval as he removed his jacket to reveal a blue Leicester home shirt in a performance that preceded his last home game Leicester v Everton. Bocelli’s appearance fulfilled a promise he had made to Ranieri a few weeks earlier as Leicester edged closer to their stunning 5,000-1 triumph. Ranieri, standing next to Bocelli on the podium, appeared to be blinking back tears during the performance. He earlier used Bocelli’s microphone to address the crowd, saying: “We are champions because you pushed us behind us. Thank you. I love you!” Bocelli later tweeted a picture of his performance, writing: “Thank you #Leicester and congratulations.” Competition winner Steve Worthy, a lifelong Leicester fan, was to present the trophy to captain Wes Morgan after the match.
