Hunt for ‘crazy’ Huddersfield youths after ‘frightening’ midnight incident

Police are appealing for witnesses to a criminal attack in Linthwaite, Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Police said a group of youths allegedly damaged a traffic light on Manchester Road in the early hours of Sunday morning. A police spokesman said: “An offense of criminal damage following a report of a group of youths causing criminal damage to a traffic light on Manchester Road, near the junction with Causeway Side, just after midnight on Sunday 14 July.




“Officers attended the scene and carried out a number of inquiries in the local area.”

Residents said they found the late-night noises “scary” and intimidating. Other incidents of damage are said to have taken place over the weekend, although it is not known if they are linked.

A Linthwaite woman said she heard a noise in the early hours of Saturday. She claimed a group of four or five youths used a sledgehammer to break through a car park wall and the walls of residents in Hoyle House Fold.

She did not want to be named, but said: “It’s not nice that things around us are mindlessly destroyed, but it’s also quite scary. You don’t feel comfortable confronting them to stop it. You just have to sit and watch. , it’s very intimidating.”
