The body found in the Aldbourne River is said to be a missing 41-year-old man

A body found in an Aldbourne river is said to be that of a man who has been missing for 41 years.

Daulat Singh went missing on Friday (July 12) – but has since been found dead on the River Kennet in Oxford Street, a stone’s throw from the village pond.

Locals claimed they saw him sleeping in a bus shelter opposite where his body was located – and that he had been “harassed” by youths in the hours before his death.

Several fire engines, numerous police vehicles, an ambulance and two ambulances were in attendance this afternoon (Wednesday) as they worked to remove him from the water.

In a statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that a body has been found in the search for missing man Daulat Singh, 41.

“At around 3.45pm today, officers searching the Aldbourne center for Daulat discovered a body in the water.”

They continued: “Although formal identification has not yet taken place, Daulat’s relatives have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

“Although it is early stages, we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

“Formal identification will take place in due course.”
