Leicester City notebook: Transfer horizons widen as loan request is made and Callum Doyle moves on

Leicester City have had South American players before. The most famous are their two Argentines, Esteban Cambiasso and Leonardo Ulloa.

They had loaned out Brazilian winger Tete the previous season, but their first South American was Peruvian legend Nolberto Solano, who played for the club during Nigel Pearson’s first spell in charge.

But what City have never had is a direct signing from South America. They were involved in many transfer sagas, most notably for Chilean midfielder Charles Aranguiz in 2015, but a deal never materialised.

Well, they may now be trying to change that as City are advertising for a South American scout to work with them as a consultant.

In the job announcement, the club states that the ideal candidate “will have an extensive and up-to-date knowledge of the South American market and will be involved with the club’s recruitment team in a collaborative approach to subjective and objective research as determined by the strategy general club recruitment for senior and development teams’. Job applications must be submitted by August 5.

Doyle prepares to return to the Championship

Although Callum Doyle won promotion to the Premier League with City last term, it seems the young defender is set for another season in the Championship. The Manchester City defender is set to join Norwich on loan.

Doyle looked set to be a key player in the Foxes squad after being reunited with his former Man City Under-21 boss Enzo Maresca at the King Power and, although he played every minute in the first month and a half, he then suffered a knee injury that sidelined him from late September to January.

By then, James Justin had established himself as a regular starter and Doyle was mostly a rotation option for the rest of the campaign. He finished the season with 23 appearances for City in all competitions, half as many as he made at Coventry the year before.

The BBC reports that Doyle is close to a move to the Canaries, who finished sixth last season, losing to Leeds in the play-off semi-finals. The 20-year-old looks set to play at left-back at Carrow Road, a priority position for Norwich in the summer transfer window.

Richards wants a loan

City midfielder Wanya Marcal has said he is hoping for a loan move this season to continue his career, and he won’t be the only player at the club with that mindset. Another who feels this way is Amani Richards.

The 19-year-old forward started 11 of City’s 20 Premier League 2 games last season, scoring three goals and setting up a further five. The only Development Team player of the season Silko Thomas finished with more goal contributions.

Speaking this summer, Richards said: “I feel this year is more important for me than any other year as I’m looking to step up to the first team. I’m looking to take that step into a loan.”
