Leicester City’s five most expensive signings from 2010 to 2020

Leicester City have spent most of the last decade in the top flight and have certainly used a fair amount of their Premier League riches.

Leicester City were relegated at the end of the 2022/23 campaign but secured an instant comeback by lifting the Championship title.

The Foxes won promotion to the top flight, then won the Premier League themselves, followed by the FA Cup between 2010 and 2020 – it’s safe to say they’ve had a wild ride during that time.

Such success has also freed up space in the budget for some eye-catching signings. That said, we look at Leicester City’s five most expensive players from 2010 to 2020 and where they stand now…

Kelechi Iheanacho

The forward signed from Manchester City for an estimated £25million ahead of the 2017/18 campaign and remains at the Foxes today.

After making 232 appearances for the East Midlands side, he has scored 61 goals and 34 assists – six and three of which have come this season – while being part of FA Cup and Community Shield winning sides.

After signing a contract extension in 2021 which ends this summer, the Nigerian has reportedly played his last game for the club.

Islam Slimani

Fourth on the list and least successful, Slimani signed for the Foxes from Sporting CP for £30m in 2016.

The Algerian international has signed a five-year deal with the club but has featured on just 47 occasions, with 13 goals and seven assists during his time at the King Power.

He was loaned out to Newcastle United, Fenerbahce and Monaco before Lyon signed him permanently. A return to Sporting CP followed before spells with Brest, Anderlecht and Coritiba.

Now 35, Slimani plies his trade in the Jupiler Pro League with Mechelen and has registered three goals along with two assists in 11 appearances.

Ayoze Perez

Another £30m signing is on the way as Leicester City poach Perez from Newcastle United for the 2019/20 season.

The Spanish striker made 114 appearances for the Foxes during his four years with the club, scoring 15 and assisting 12 in that time. He is another member of FA Cup and Community Shield winning teams.

He spent the last six months of his loan deal in Spain with Real Betis before signing for the Spanish side on a permanent deal ahead of the current campaign. Perez remains there and now has nine goals and two assists in all competitions in 34 appearances.

Wesley Fofana

France star Fofana signed from Saint-Etienne in 2020 for a hefty fee of £36.5m, according to reports.

The centre-back made 52 appearances for Leicester City before Chelsea swooped in and paid an initial £70million for his services in 2022.

Things haven’t gone to plan for the centre-back since joining the Blues. Fofana made just 20 appearances in two seasons due to injuries.

Now 23, Fofana will be hoping to start next season and get a consistent run of games behind him under Mauricio Pochettino.

Youri Tielemans

Completing our list is Tielemans, the Foxes’ record signing on a fee of around £40m from AS Monaco ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

After initially impressing on loan, Leicester City signed the Belgian midfielder on a four-year deal and he went on to make 195 appearances for the club. With 28 goals and 26 assists during his time in the East Midlands, he scored the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea and is another who was also part of the Community Shield winning team.

Following the Foxes’ relegation, the 27-year-old signed for Aston Villa on a free transfer.
