Deja Vu at International House as Lambeth prepares yet another lease extension with ‘Brixton Rec Quarter’ development delayed

Lambeth Council is issuing another short-term lease to the existing tenant at International House to manage the workspace.

3Space will benefit from expansion as plans for ‘Brixton Rec Quarter’ are delayed again.

Sometimes these Brixton Buzz stories write themselves. I reported the exact same arrangement a year ago. 3Space extended lease as Rec Quarter stalled.

As it was ever…

Twelve months on and we find that Labour’s Cabinet Member for Finance, Councilor David Amos, is about to do exactly the same.

The officer’s report states:

“International House is a temporary project occupying council-owned land in Brixton town center ahead of its future redevelopment.”

Don’t forget that International House was also once one of the Council buildings that was sold off as part of the justification to spend over £100m on your Town Hall Nope. The idea was that by selling 12 Council offices, taxpayers would save money.

It’s not all bad news. The council claims this new lease extension will generate an income of £309,348.

The report adds:

“The building has ten floors and a roof terrace and needs upgrading and upgrading. 3Space currently leases the building to tenants on eight of the floors.”

The final vision for the site is much more ambitious. It includes the delivery of new affordable and market-rate housing, employment spaces, improved public space and upgraded street market facilities.

I set a journal reminder for twelve months to copy and paste the above.
