What Aston Villa’s dramatic draw with Liverpool means for Arsenal

Aston Villa’s dramatic draw against Liverpool on Monday means Tottenham have no choice but to beat Manchester City to stay in the race for the top four – and that’s good news for Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes League.

Liverpool held a 3-1 lead at Villa Park by the 85th minute in what would have been a big boost for Arsenal, before Unai Emery’s side scored twice late on.

A draw is positive for Arsenal though, as a win at Villa would have clinched their fourth and final Champions League spot – but they failed to pick up three points – meaning Spurs are still alive in the race for the top four .

Ahead of Villa’s clash with Liverpool, Arsenal hero Paul Merson suggested that if Spurs had nothing to play for against City then they would be inclined to lose the game on purpose to prevent their north London rivals to get the top title.

After Villa’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool, Arsenal fans took to social media to react to the result and what it means for their team on Tuesday when Spurs host title rivals City.

Arsenal superfan Piers Morgan posted on X: “So with that draw at Villa, Spurs MUST beat City tomorrow night or they’ll have no chance of Champions League qualification.

“The perfect scenario for Arsenal to win the League. Come on (Tottenham), you can do it, useless.

Another Arsenal supporter @hihbhu posted on Reddit: “More pressure on (Spurs) to win tomorrow now, they have an opening and it’s up to them to take it.

“Villa have Palace and (Spurs) have Sheffield (United) after their game tomorrow. They have to do everything possible to win if they want the (Champions League) bonuses.’

“Spurs can’t play now for a draw tomorrow,” added Reddit user @farkoooooff. “They’re going to play to win – whether it works or not, we’ll see.”

“I think if Villa had won I would have had no hope of Spurs turning up tomorrow and even letting them concede 5+ goals,” @Nickoo33 posted on Reddit.

“Now they have a reason to show up and take the (Champions League) place until the last day.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal star Kai Havertz says he will become “Tottenham’s biggest fan” on Tuesday night.
