Leicester’s music scene is set for a change with the return of secret gigs

Music lovers in Leicester are in for a treat when Sofar Sounds return to the city, promising a series of intimate and mysterious gigs in unexpected locations.

Participants will not know the location until 36 hours before the event, and the performers of the show remain a secret until the night itself.

The venues for these secret concerts are as diverse as the music itself. Potential locations range from coffee shops and offices to sports facilities, creative studios, libraries and even private homes.

Each concert features three acts spanning various genres, ensuring a rich and varied musical experience. Past shows have featured an eclectic mix including folk, hip hop, spoken word and Americana, often delivered in a stripped back style that enhances intimacy.

Sofar has confirmed three dates in the city: Friday, August 2; Friday, September 20; and Friday, October 18.

Beth, reflecting on her previous role as curator in 2019, expressed her excitement: “I was one of the previous curators in 2019 and I’m delighted to bring it back to the city.

“It’s a global brand that attracts amazing artists from all over the country and sometimes the world. In the past, Leicester has played host to musicians on tour from America passing through Leicester, for example, making these highly personalized experiences,” she said.

She added: “I think what people love is the surprise and mystery around the show. We started selling tickets even before we promoted the fact that Sofar Sounds was back in Leicester, which shows the desire for experiences like this.”
