Cornwall road trip named among the ‘best’ in the country – and it’s dog friendly

Cornwall has been named as one of the best destinations for a road trip – and one particular route will be popular with pet owners as it’s dog friendly. The Newquay to Barnstaple road boasts over 1,400 dog-friendly Airbnbs, along with over 40 dog-friendly pubs.

In a list ranking the top “dog-friendly” road trips across the country, the Atlantic Highways trip took second place. The historic Borders route (the Carlisle to Edinburgh route in Scotland) was ranked best overall and awarded the number one position.




The Atlantic Highway is the name given to a long and winding 70 mile section of the A39 that runs from Barnstaple in North Devon to Fraddon on the outskirts of Newquay.

On one side of the road are increasingly wild hills, on the other some of the best coastline in the UK. The Atlantic Highway has featured on many lists that rate the best road trips in the UK, Europe and even the world.

And now, Nationwide Vehicle Contracts has conducted new research to find the best dog-friendly road trip based on criteria including dog-friendly pubs, Airbnbs and vets featured along the route. And the experts ranked the Atlantic Highway as one of the best.
