An 80-year-old man left to fight for life after ‘attack’ on Enfield train, while 18-year-old charged

An 18-year-old man has been charged after an 80-year-old man was attacked at an Overground station in north London and left to fight for his life. Zephaniah Dufeal, 18, of Church Street, Edmonton, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the attack and will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on July 19.

Police were called to Edmonton Green Overground station at 9.53pm on July 16. The 80-year-old man was rushed to hospital, where he remained three days after the attack, in a life-threatening condition.



Dufeal was remanded in custody following his arraignment. A 20-year-old woman was also arrested for assaulting Dufeal by British Transport Police – both on suspicion of attempted murder – but is now on bail pending further inquiries.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police told MyLondon: “British Police received reports of an assault that took place at Edmonton Green station at around 9.53pm last night (July 16). Paramedics attended and an 80-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Enquiries are continuing at pace and we will be conducting high visibility patrols in the area alongside the Metropolitan Police Service to provide reassurance. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 quoting reference 766 of July 16.”

The station was closed while BTP carried out investigations which delayed trains, but was reopened by 11.30am the day after the July 17 attack.
