Updated IT Issues Statement

Updated IT Issues Statement

NHS National Statement – 10.30am Friday 19 July

An NHS spokesman said: “The NHS is aware of a global IT outage and issue with EMIS, a patient appointment and registration system, which is causing disruption in most GP practices.

“The NHS has long-standing measures in place to manage disruptions, including the use of paper patient records and handwritten prescriptions, as well as regular telephone systems to contact your GP.

“There is currently no known impact on 999 or emergency services, so people should use these services as they normally would.”

The situation in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Some of our NHS IT systems have been affected by global IT issues.
We know that IT systems in some GP surgeries are affected, and some non-clinical systems within some NHS providers.

We ask that people only call their GP if they have an urgent medical reason until the problem is resolved.

Please do not attend an emergency department, a minor injuries unit or call NHS 111 unless you have an urgent medical reason, so that we can keep these services for the people who need them most.

We are currently investigating the situation to understand the extent of the issue and will continue to provide updates as we know more.

In the meantime, please continue:

  • to attend your GP or hospital appointment, unless otherwise advised
  • to use 999 if you have a life or limb-threatening emergency
  • call your local pharmacist for many common minor ailments
  • use NHS 111 online for advice (please call NHS 111 for urgent matters only)

Thank you for your understanding and for your patience with our staff, who are doing everything possible to ensure that the people with the most urgent health needs are seen first during this time.
