M1 traffic updates as a multi-vehicle crash closes the main motorway

The M1 has been closed following a multi-vehicle crash on the main motorway.

According to the traffic management system, Inrix, the serious accident happened at junction 40 of the A638 Wakefield Road. Traffic has been stopped since 9.45 a.m. in the northbound direction.




Currently there is a diversion through the input and output braces.

It is not yet known how many cars were involved in the accident. It is also not known if anyone was injured.


Inrix said: “M1 Northbound closed, traffic queued due to multi-vehicle crash at J40 A638 Wakefield Road (Ossett / Wakefield). All traffic stopped around 09:45. Diversion – Via exit and entry slips .”

The road remains closed

M1 northbound closed, long delays due to multi-vehicle crash at J40 A638 Wakefield Road (Ossett / Wakefield). Congestion to A636 (Durkar).

All traffic stopped around 09:45.
