Pir Sahib funeral: Bradford roads closed tonight as 10,000 mourners expected to attend

Around 10,000 mourners are expected to take to the streets of Bradford for the funeral of religious leader Pir Sahib.

Pir Syed Maroof Hussain Shah Arif Qadri Naushahi has sadly passed away after a long illness and his funeral will be held this evening. Commonly known as Pir Sahib, his funeral service is being organized by Jamiyat Tabligh-ul-Islam and will be held at Jamiyat Tabligh-ul-Islam Bradford Central Mosque in Infirmary Fields this evening.




The service is expected to start at 7.15pm this evening and people will be able to pay their respects at Bradford Central Mosque and the mosque will also remain open for Friday prayers.

In addition, a number of roads will be closed to accommodate the expected huge crowd of mourners. These are:

  • B6144 Westgate from White Abbey Road to Drewton Road
  • White Abbey Road from City Road to Lumb Lane
  • Lumb Lane from B6144 White Abbey Road to Bowland Street
  • and Bowland Street and Gracechurch Street will be one way to help traffic flow.

They will be in place between 4pm and 6pm this evening and are expected to remain in place until around 9pm. Bradford Council said it would lift the closures as soon as it is safe to do so. Due to these closures, some bus routes will also be diverted.

If you wish to attend, you should ask your local mosque about possible attendance arrangements and should allow plenty of time for your journey. All road users not attending the funeral should seek alternative routes.
