Southlake patients may experience delays due to global technology outage

Some delays possible due to system issues, Newmarket hospital says following CrowdStrike outage

The global outage affecting some IT systems hits home in Newmarket at Southlake Regional Health Center.

Airlines, banks, and healthcare systems are the primary institutions affected by a global CrowdStrike outage today. Newmarket Hospital said it was also experiencing some system impacts due to issues with its cyber security system.

“Clinical activity continues as scheduled, but some patients may experience delays,” Southlake said. “Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to fully restore our systems.”

CrowdStrike said the problem was due to a flaw in a content update, not a cyber attack. The update caused problems for Windows systems, resulting in crashes.

The company said it is working to fix the problem.

“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers affected by a flaw found in a single content update for Windows hosts,” the company said in a statement on its website. “The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix implemented. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide full and continuous updates on our website.”

The impact on airlines affected thousands of people globally, with delays across the continent.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
