Birmingham Airport flights canceled live after global IT outage as passengers warned to ‘stay away’

Some flights due to depart from Birmingham Airport have been canceled this afternoon following a worldwide IT outage. An airline has advised passengers to stay away from the airport if their flight is delayed or delayed.

The situation grounded planes around the world. BHX urged tourists to be aware of the “rapidly evolving situation”. Rail services, doctors’ surgeries and banks have also been affected by the crisis. A “bug” affecting Windows operating systems was blamed.

KLM urged passengers to “stay away from the airport” if their flight does not depart or is seriously delayed. The Birmingham departure board showed eight flights, all KLM, canceled this afternoon.

The airline said: “We realize this is very inconvenient for customers, particularly as the busy summer holiday season has just started. KLM is working hard to restore operations.” While Air France said only certain flights to Amsterdam and Berlin were disrupted.


Taking to X, Birmingham Airport posted: “Most flights are operating as normal. However, some records experience delays being processed by peers. For those who previously registered online are not affected. This is clearly a fast process. Situation evolving Customers should follow airline advice and we will continue to update passengers throughout the day.”

Update from Eurowings

Referring to X, Eurowings said: “Despite a global IT disruption, we plan to operate around 80% of our flights.

“Most of the canceled flights will be German domestic flights to ease the system and reroute passengers by rail.”

Wizz Air’s three-hour warning

Wizz Air has alerted customers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight today.

A number of its IT systems remain down.

“Patients should attend appointments unless told otherwise”

NHS England has provided an update after the global IT outage brought its appointment booking system to a standstill.

Medical appointments affected

It’s not just chaos at the airport, Solihull Healthcare Partnership said there is a “national problem” with its EMIS Web IT booking system.

He posted on X: “Unfortunately, there is a national issue with EMIS Web – our clinical IT system.

“This will affect our ability to book/see patients this morning. We will inform patients when we can. We apologize for the interruption.”

Update from Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport has deployed an update following the IT outage which led to the cancellation of some flights.

A post on X said: “Following the IT outage earlier today, most of our flights are operating as normal, but some airlines are still using a manual check-in process.

“For customers traveling today, please continue to check your flight status with your airline and report to check-in time.”

“Do not travel” warning.

KLM warned passengers not to travel to the airport due to technical difficulties.

In a post on X, the airline said: “We urge passengers to stay away from the airport if their flight does not depart or is seriously delayed.”

Eight KLM flights scheduled to depart from BXH today have been cancelled.
