Britain’s best young swimmers battle it out in Sheffield

The best young swimmers from up and down England and the rest of the UK are heading to Sheffield for the 2024 British Summer Championships.

Over 1000 swimmers from over 200 clubs are expected to compete in one of the biggest events in the British swimming calendar.

The seven-day event will provide a key end-of-season competition opportunity for every athlete involved in a busy schedule from July 20-26 at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

It is the third year in a row that Sheffield will host the event, following the return of competitions since the pandemic, with Ponds Forge also hosting the GoCardless Swim England National Summer Meet from Monday 29 July to Saturday 3 August.

The action-packed week will crown Summer Championship medalists in five age categories for both men and women, with the winners of the para-swimming events determined by British Para-swimming points in the Multi-Classification competition format.

You can watch all the action from the Championships live on the Aquatics GB YouTube channel, with live results available here.

On Saturday, distance kicks off this year’s championships, with the 1500m freestyle declared winners. Among those who will be in the water in Sheffield is British senior champion over that distance Amelie Blocksidge.

The City of Salford swimmer is just behind to defend her European Junior Open Water title and will be looking to add more gold to her growing collection from South Yorkshire.

She will face a number of domestic challengers who have targeted this competition and will be desperate to make a statement on opening day.

After six more days of exciting racing, the competition will conclude with a fast-paced 4x100m medley relay as Britain’s future stars prepare to watch the nations best at the Paris Olympics on Saturday 27 July .

The Club of the Year award is also up for grabs, with Soundwell Swimming Club taking the title home in 2023 ahead of Portsmouth Northsea and Richmond Dales.
