Wale Forest and Wakefield softball advance to the second round of the NCHSAA

On May 10, Wakefield and Wake Forest won in the second round of the NCHSAA tournament.

A rematch of the NAC-6 tournament is coming as both teams are one win away from facing off.

Wake Forest versus Gray’s Creek

In Wake Forest’s matchup with Gray Creek, the Bears got on the scoreboard first with a run in the first frame. That, however, would be their only run until the fifth inning.

Wake Forest got on the board in the bottom of the second, taking a one-run lead and extending it with a run in the third.

The Cougars led 3-1 in the fifth, and after allowing a run to the Bears, Wake Forest scored five in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the 12-2 victory.

Wakefield versus South View

Wakefield’s game was low-scoring for much of the game, with the Wolverines leading just 3-1 after the first four innings.

The Wolverines caught heat in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs. They allowed two runs between the sixth and seventh, but took the seven-run victory 10-3.

Noa Grunow and Brooke Masingale led the game at the plate with similar batting numbers. Both had two hits for two runs, three RBIs and a home run.

It follows

Wakefield will take on No. 7 Lumberton on May 14 at 5 p.m
