Hunt for escaped prisoner who may be in Cornwall

Police are looking for an escaped prisoner who may be in Cornwall. Gary Rootham, 42, escaped from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire yesterday (July 19).

Gary, who is serving time for offenses including driving offences, robbery and burglary, was last seen by prison staff at around 5.40pm on Friday. He was reportedly wearing a dark Nike polo shirt, dark jogging pants and black trainers with white soles at the time of his disappearance.




In an effort to aid in the search, police have released images of the wanted man. He is described as being 5ft 11in tall, with short, dark brown hair and usually clean shaven.

Rootham has known links with Reading and Cornwall. Police are urging anyone who spots Rootham not to approach him, but to dial 999 and quote 5224188647.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can also call 101, Bristol Live reports.
