New Delhi: West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph smashed a few tiles off the roof of Trent Bridge in Nottingham with his massive six off Gus Atkinson during West Indies’ first innings in the ongoing second Test against England. It was a monster hit from the tail-ender that left fans stunned as broken tiles fell from the stadium roof.

The incident happened in the West Indies’ 107th innings when Joseph faced Atkinson. The pacer scooped a short delivery from Atkinson over deep mid-wicket for a six on the second delivery of the over before smashing another maximum on the fourth delivery. It was another short ball from the England pacer and Joseph got it comfortably over long leg.

Joseph expected the delivery and was ready for the big hit as he launched the ball over the roof of the stadium. When the ball landed on the roof, some tiles broke and fell. Fans standing near the roof were left in shock when broken pieces of tiles landed on their heads. Fortunately, none of the fans were injured.

Joseph played a sensational cameo of 33 off 27 balls laced with 5 fours and two sixes to help West Indies post 457 runs on the board in the first innings, helping the visitors amass a 41-run lead in the second test. He combined with wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Da Silva to share a crucial 71-run stand for the 10th wicket.

Resuming their first innings on 351/5 on Day 3, West Indies lost early wickets, with Jason Holder dismissed by Chris Woakes on 27 before Atkinson removed Kevin Sinclair cheaply for just 4 runs. Alzarri Joseph was dismissed by Woakes after scoring 10 runs before the pacer dismissed Jayden Seales for a duck that left West Indies on 386/9.

Joseph combined with Da Silva to lead West Indies’ resistance as the pair showed incredible composure en route to their 71-run stand for the last wicket. The 41-run lead put the West Indies in a commanding position in the Test match. However, a lot rests on the shoulders of the visiting bowlers, who will have to bowl England out as quickly as possible.
