The 3 Sheffield Wednesday players who desperately need to impress Danny Rohl this summer

Sheffield Wednesday face Red Bull Salzburg in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday have just three pre-season friendlies before they kick off the 2024/25 Championship season at home to Plymouth Argyle.

Sheffield Wednesday take on Red Bull Salzburg in Austria on Saturday afternoon, then take on Werder Bremen in Germany before returning to Hillsborough for Liam Palmer’s testimonial against Leganes.

The new season is fast approaching and will continue what has been a very impressive summer transfer window for the Owls with nine signings arriving.

But new signings will inevitably mean some players fall down the pecking order, and here we look at three who desperately need to impress Danny Rohl this summer or risk falling out of favour…

Mallik Wilks

The forward has already been down the pecking order this summer. Then, after the arrival of the likes of Jamal Lowe, Olaf Kobacki and Charlie McNeill, it looks like Mallik Wilks is completely out of contention.

Josh Windass recently revealed that Wilks has been in “incredible form” this pre-season and so he could be looking to make a comeback at Sheffield Wednesday next time around.

But unless he can do something special this summer, it looks like Wilks could even be moved before the summer transfer deadline on August 30.

Bailey Cadamarteri

The young striker burst onto the scene last season, eventually making 23 league appearances, scoring four goals and earning himself a long-term contract.

After the January arrival of Ike Ugbo, Cadamarteri played less. And like Wilks, this summer’s attacking signings could see Bailey Cadamarteri fall down the pecking order, with a loan exit looking like it could be ideal for Cadamarteri ahead of the new season.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Premier League sides were tracking Cadamarteri ahead of the new season.

Bambo Diaby

The centre-back was occasionally useful last season, featuring 34 times in the Championship and starting fairly regularly in the first half of the season.

Bambo Diaby lost his starting XI in the second half of the campaign after being criticized in certain games such as the 4-0 defeat at Southampton in January.

With Di’Shon Bernard back and Rohl wanting another center back with easy options, Diaby could play a backup role next season.
