‘Sizable’ prospect of sell-on clause could force PL club to find high prices to sell Leeds United – See

Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto is a prime target for Sean Dyche’s Everton this week, but the 49ers will hold out for the best possible fee.

The sale of Archie Gray proved that Leeds could not really get through this summer window without a massive sale, but this confirmation strengthened the club’s position going forward.

However, Gray will not be the last sale as Willy Gnonto is starting to be heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road once again.

‘Sizable’ prospect of sell-on clause could force PL club to find high prices to sell Leeds United – See

The Times revealed on Monday night that Leeds winger Willy Gnonto has received renewed interest from Everton.

Such reports have been submitted by several institutions since then, with Fabrizio Romano adding that the winger is keen to leave Elland Road for this Premier League opportunity.

Gnonto was admittedly subject to a £25million bid from Everton last summer, but the 49ers remained adamant about selling the Italy international as he refused to play and handed in a transfer request in August .

FC Zurich have the sell-on clause in the Gnonto deal, could force the bid higher

Having lost Gray and secured huge investment from Red Bull, Leeds are confident of their chances of raising the price for anyone they could sell, including Gnonto to Everton.

Another reason why we should see a bigger price swing is that FC Zurich have a major sell-on clause in the Leeds player’s contract, confirmed by their club president Ancilo Canepa, in 2023, via Blick:

“I’m sure Willy wants to continue playing in the Premier League. That has some revenue potential. We have always said that the transfer meets our expectations.

“The first part was cash. The second part is quite a stake in a subsequent transfer.”

Signed for £3.8m, Leeds have a huge push for PSR if they sell Gnonto for a big fee, hoping it will be as high as the £25m they turned down last summer.

However, this sell-on clause could force Leeds and Everton to maximize the fee so that more of them stay at Elland Road.

If Zurich gets 20% of a deal around £25m, for example, £5m won’t go into the coffers of the 49 to reinvest.

It will be in the club’s best interest to get the highest possible fee, but this sell-on clause adds a bit more pressure.
