Shock as mum-of-two’s car ‘deliberately’ set on fire as teenager arrested

A car is believed to have been deliberately set on fire while two children were inside, police said. West Yorkshire Police said a woman contacted them to say her vehicle was on fire just before 11pm on Thursday in Tong Way, Leeds.

They said a teenager was arrested following the incident. However, the incident is understood to be unrelated to the riots that took place in the city on the same night.

A police spokesman said: “At 10.52pm on Thursday 18 July a woman reported her car had been deliberately set on fire while her two children were still in the vehicle in Tong Way, Leeds. She and a neighbor brought the children to safety and were checked by ambulance personnel, with no concerns found.

“A 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing.”

The teenager was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
