A45 diversion route as crash in Northamptonshire leaves road closed

Diversion routes are in place after a “serious” crash closed the A45 in Northamptonshire today (Saturday, July 20). Police, paramedics and firefighters are at the scene on the road between Irthlingborough and Thrapston – with the road closed to traffic in both directions.

The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the afternoon, according to National Highways. Traffic data company Inrix said: “A45 both ways blocked, delays due to accident from A14 J13 (Thrapston) to B663.”

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “We are currently attending a two-vehicle collision on the A45 eastbound which has required the closure of both carriageways between Raunds and the A14 at Thrapston. Please avoid the area. We will update as soon as we arrive. able. Thank you.”

National motorway diversion routes due to the closure of the A45:

Road users traveling east are advised to follow the Hollow Diamond detour symbol on road signs:

Exit the A45 eastbound at the A45/A6 Chowns Mill roundabout. Then take the first exit from the roundabout onto the A6 northbound.

Continue on the A6 past the A6/B5348 Station Road roundabout and round Irthlingborough. Continue on the A6 through Finedon, past the mini roundabout at the A6/A510 Wellingborough Road junction and along the A6 Burton Latimer Bypass to the A14 Junction 10.

At the A14 junction 10, take the fourth exit onto the A14 east. Continue on the A14 east to the A14 Junction 13 Thrapston.

Road users traveling west are advised to follow the Solid Circle Detour symbol on road signs:

At the A14 Junction 13 Thrapston Interchange continue west along the A14 to the A14 Junction 10. At the A14 J10 Interchange take the first exit onto the A6, Burton Road southbound.

Continue on the A6 around the Burton Latimer Bypass, through Finedon via the mini-roundabout at the A6/A510 Wellingborough Road junction and through Irthlingborough via the A6/B5348 Station Road roundabout

At the A6, Chowns Mill Roundabout joins the A45 westbound.
