‘He has a unique way of keeping the dressing room positive’: Arshdeep Singh praises ‘Bowler’s captain’ Rohit Sharma

Arshdeep Singh has had a roller coaster ride since making his T20I debut in 2022. There was a time when he was portrayed as the biggest villain on social media after India lost a match in the Cup Asia against Pakistan. All the social policing and hatred was too much for a young man, but he could overcome it with family support and a strong mindset.

Two years later, fortunes turned when he became one of the world champions, winning the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. Arshdeep Singh was fantastic throughout the tournament, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Afghanistan’s Fazhal Farooqi with 17 wickets.

Speaking to news agency IANS, Arshdeep spoke about how criticism has taught him “resilience” and how family support is “invaluable” during one’s journey.

“Family support in difficult times is invaluable. My family has always been my pillar of strength, providing unwavering support and encouragement through all the ups and downs,” said Arshdeep.

“Their belief in me keeps me grounded and motivated, especially when things get challenging. Knowing that they are always there, cheering me on, gives me the confidence to keep moving forward. At the end of the day, nothing beats the bond of family and their love. Family is all you have,” he added.

“Rohit Sharma – A Bowler’s Captain”

Arshdeep further praised World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma, calling him a “captain bowler” who gives youngsters the freedom to play their natural game.

“Playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma was an incredible experience. Rohit bhai is a bowler captain. He allows each bowler complete freedom to execute what he wants to do on the field. He has a unique way of keeping the atmosphere in the dressing room light and positive, which helps in high-pressure situations,” said Arshdeep.

His strategic thinking and the way he read the game is really inspiring and I learned a lot from him about managing different match scenarios,” he added.
