Mikey Lewis taunts Leeds Rhinos fans as Hull KR ace offers ‘nothing special’ view

Mikey Lewis was in top form in Hull KR’s win over Leeds Rhinos and his knock wasn’t too bad either. The winger was the star player as Rovers claimed an impressive win at Headingley, scoring a crucial try and kicking two 40-20.

As is often the case, Lewis was the focus of attention from rival supporters, although he did little to dislodge the England international as he produced a standout performance to help Rovers to an eight-point lead over Rhinos with nine games to the end.

And Lewis was keen to enjoy the int once the game was won. Jez Litten’s late try gave Rovers an unassailable lead, with his last try of the game being his conversion try. Lewis’ tee shot went wide of the bar, prompting sarcastic cheers from the Headingley South Stand.

But with the match won, Lewis had the last laugh as he put his finger to his lips, silencing the Leeds fans before waving them off as they objected to his response.

Lewis was asked about the incident after the game and told Sky Sports: “They gave me the whole game. It was just a bit of a celebration, it’s part of the game. It’s what they want to see, it’s what the game wants to see.

Leeds led the game 6-0 at half-time, but Lewis added that Rhinos did nothing particularly important to establish a lead.

“It just came from a try; they didn’t do anything special,” he said. “We knew if we followed our process and game plan we would come out on the other side and that’s what we did. We didn’t panic, we calmed down at half-time, we weren’t frustrated that we did it. Don’t collect points, that’s going to be on the backend here, you don’t know if you’re going to be zero in the 78th minute, you just have to get wins.”
