Hull FC shock table-topping Wigan Warriors with incredible performance

Despite having won their last ten games in a row, Wigan Warriors were defeated by Hull FC at the MKM Stadium today.

The Black and Whites led early after Abbas Miski made a mess of a high kick which allowed Jack Walker to give them the first score of the afternoon.

They kept the pressure up, and followed up with some strong sets before Jake Trueman kicked out on the full.

The Warriors then hit back through Liam Marshall who made it 6-4, but Adam Keighran missed the resulting kick.

From there, it was once again all Hull FC, and after another Wigan error, Liam Sutcliffe scored a converted try.

Yet another Wigan error paved the way for another try, as Jake Trueman provided more good work for Grix’s side and Davy Litten got his try.

It was 18-4 to Hull FC at half-time, and questions were raised as to whether they could keep it up after the break.

The answer came just minutes in, as Denive Balmforth retrieved a Jack Walker offload to power his way over to extend their lead.

Wigan were denied a try by the video referee, but the mistakes kept coming from the Warriors, and halfway through the second period, FC still looked on top.

Brad O’Neill, from dummy half, scored against the run of play, after some missed chances from the home side, and this seemed to change the tide somewhat.

Despite this, a Jack Charles break took the pressure off briefly.

Jack Farrimond’s break of his own was stopped by a high Davy Litten tackle shortly after, and a yellow card was issued, meaning Hull FC needed to defend a 14-point lead with 12 men for eight minutes.

It took just seconds for Liam Marshall to make the most of this, going in to the corner to reduce the deficit, while another easy try after a Jake Wardle break for Jack Farrimond was converted and brought them within two.

They were tired and a man down, and suddenly, a Wigan victory seemed inevitable.

However, with just two minutes to go, Harry Smith knocked on and should have let FC run the clock down, yet a failed 40-20 attempt meant the Warriors had ball-in-hand in a good position, yet with ten seconds to go , Hull FC took it back to seal a famous 24-22 victory.
