Cray Wanderers won their first game of pre-season but had to come from two nil down early in the second half to beat a talented and determined Bromley U21 side.

Cray trailed at half-time and conceded a second in the 57th minute from the penalty spot, but three goals in five minutes turned the game around, with Alex Teniola, Nyren Clunis and a triple scoring and another triple adding another the fourth in the 71st minute with another penalty.

The first half never went the winning way for the most part, although Cray came close to scoring early on with a three-man shot on goal and then firing wide of the left post. For Bromley, the number 4 saw a shot blocked.

In the 28th minute Bromley took the lead when from a free kick on the right edge of the penalty area the number 3 curled a superb shot around the wall and into the net.

Two minutes later for Cray, trialist no. 19 sent a cross shot against the right post and then Lateef Adeja saw a shot blocked. Before the break, Bromley no. 2 saw a shot blocked.

HT: 0-1

The second half was a much livelier affair and Cray started the half on the front foot. Anthony Cook saw a lobbed effort saved and then the sad no. 9 came into the area and saw his shot blocked by number 2. Cook was then unlucky with a shot from 20 yards which the keeper did superbly to push over the bar.

However, in the 57th minute, Bromley had a chance to extend their lead when the number 20 was tripped up inside the area and confidently slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-0.

Cray quickly turned the game around when two minutes later after a good ball down the right came Alex Teniola who turned and fired into the net to reduce the arrears.

Then, in the 61st minute, the Wands player no. 17 broke down the right and his ball was likely to go in, but Nyren Clunis got the final touch to make it 2-2.

The comeback then ended in the 64th minute when, from a free-kick on the left, Clunis’ cross was headed in by the no. 19.

In the 71st minute, Cray scored the fourth, when the sad no. 16 showed quick feet to break into the area and was brought down and then got up to score from the spot.

Bromley almost pulled a goal back when the number 19 crossed but was denied by a fine save by the Wands keeper.

Wands almost added a fifth when Teniola, with his back to goal, turned the ball just wide of the left-hand post from a free-kick and the Bromley number 16 fired wide.

In the end Cray had to work extremely hard to win the game and certainly in the second half there were a couple of threes who looked the part and good ones for Clunis, Cook, Archie Johnson, Alfie Evans and Frankie Raymond to get something game time.

Cray’s next move to challenge a Millwall XI on Tuesday 23rd July, 7.45pm in the first of three pre-season games against you would imagine they’d be good passing teams and it will be a great occasion that will finish under the lights.
