‘Two more days of play’: Chris Woakes wants England to avoid complacency against West Indies in Nottingham

According to Woakes, West Indies can change the game at any time, so it is important that Root and Brook build a big partnership to put England in a commanding position.

England’s all-round star Chris Wakes said his team should not take a back seat in the second Test against the West Indies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The hosts hold a lead of 207 runs with seven wickets remaining in the second innings. The likes of Joe Root and Harry Brook put up a solid 108-run stand, keeping England in a healthy spot after blowing a 41-run first-innings lead.

According to Woakes, West Indies can change the game at any moment, so it is important that Root and Brook build a big partnership to put England in a commanding position.

“I never like to say we’re ahead in a Test because half an hour can go against us and we’re behind the game again. The fourth morning will be huge. If the partnership is extended to 150 or 200 then we will remove the game. If the West Indies take quick wickets, they will feel ahead again,” Woakes said in the post-day press conference.
