ITV’s McDonald & Dodds filming locations, while cast reflect on ‘beautiful’ setting.

McDonald and Dodds are set to return for a fourth series, bringing more ITV drama magic to the screen. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Bath and its surrounding areas, the series will delight fans with three new feature-length episodes.

Next season will see the dynamic duo, Jason Watkins as DCI Lauren McDonald and Tala Gouveia as DS Dodds, back in action. Despite their contrasting styles, they form an effective partnership that has captured the hearts of viewers.

Filming took place at The Bottle Yard Studios and various locations in Bristol and Bath, supported by the film offices of both cities last year. Tala Gouveia shared her excitement about the filming sites and said: “We had some beautiful locations. I think my favorite was Colston Hall. Our base was at the Bath Cheese Shop so I got to eat a lot of cheese. Highlight and I was in this big beautiful house and grounds.”

She added: “We also had quite a few weddings in this series, so we shot in some beautiful churches, a barn, the botanic gardens. We are always blessed with beautiful locations in this show.”

Mammoth Screen, the production company behind the series, has once again set up its base at Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios, where it has built sets including the police station premises, reports OK!.

The King William Ale House on Little King Street, which was temporarily renamed The Sunne Rising for filming purposes, is just one of a number of locations in and around Bristol to receive support from the Bristol Film Office. Filming also extended to various sites including Chandos Road in Redland, Cattle Market Road in Redcliffe, Alder Close and Petherton Road in Hengrove, plus additional locations along Hengrove Way and at the University of West of England from its Frenchay campus.

Bath Film Office played a key role in securing the many filming locations in Bath and the surrounding areas where the drama is fundamentally set. Notable sites include the Temple of Minerva in the Botanic Gardens, the iconic Royal Crescent, Abbey Green, Bath Marina, Kelston Village and Compton Dando in the Chew Valley.

Head of Production Veronica Castillo of Mammoth Screen joked, “We are thinking of opening a branch of Mammoth Screen at The Bottle Yard Studios because we keep coming back year after year! Very close to home. TBYS is the perfect Base for McDonald and Dodds, the perfect match of great facilities, excellent studio space, very talented local crew, fabulous and historic locations both in the city and countryside, on hand and a wonderful support team led by Laura, Katherine and Emma Who wouldn’t you want to come back again?”
