Birmingham City have sent a clear transfer message as the consequences of relegation become clear

The pain is still palpable. Relegation. In League One. How the hell could that have happened? What on earth can be done to get Birmingham City back on track?

With new, high-profile owners and plans for a super-cool new stadium and ‘sports district’ underway, the Blues must see this season’s woes as just a little local difficulty; an aberration to be corrected at the earliest possible opportunity.




Well, that means next season, and the club’s hierarchy have already been given a clear message about what needs to be done and how to do it.

In the days since the Blues dropped the Championship, we’ve been quizzing supporters with various questions surrounding a disastrous campaign – mainly what was behind the calamity of relegation, who has shone despite the troubles surrounding the club and what should be done this summer to try to right the wrongs of 2023/24.

It’s fair to say that Blues fans didn’t hold back – 86% of respondents blamed the appointment of Wayne Rooney as manager for their relegation, an error or judgment that the club’s hierarchy have already acknowledged.

The only bright light of the season was Jay Stansfield. The on-loan striker managed a clear shot at the club’s end-of-season awards and it was a similar story in our poll.
