Edmonton Green station is reopening as a horrific attack leaves an elderly man fighting for his life

A north London train station has reopened after an 80-year-old man was assaulted, leaving him fighting for his life.

The Edmonton Green station was closed as police responded to reports of an assault Tuesday night.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Paramedics attended and a man in his 80s was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

Meanwhile, there are no trains on the Piccadilly line to Heathrow Airport due to a signaling fault.

Delays are also expected to services between London Kings Cross/Moorgate and Stevenage until 5.30pm.

Delays between London Kings Cross, Moorgate and Stevenage

A fault in the signaling system between London Kings Cross / Moorgate and Stevenage means that trains have to run at reduced speed on the line to Stevenage.

Trains may be delayed by up to 40 minutes.

British Transport Police have released details of the incident which closed Edmonton Green station.

Officers received reports of an attack at the station at around 9.53pm last night.

Paramedics attended and an 80-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A BTP spokesman said: “Enquiries are continuing apace and we will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the area alongside the Metropolitan Police Service to provide reassurance.

“Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 quoting reference 766 of July 16.”

Edmonton Green is expected to be closed by the end of the day

Trains are not expected to stop at Edmonton Green until later in the day due to a police incident.

Services running between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town or Cheshunt will not call at the station.
