Travel expert issues ‘inflated’ warnings to anyone booking flights online

A travel expert has issued a warning for anyone booking flights this summer. Josh Martin said the sites people use to book vacations might look like they’re saving you money, but that’s not always the case.

Flight comparison sites such as Skyscanner and Momondo are very popular with tourists. But booking through them can leave you with extra costs, Mr Martin said.




He said: “Essentially, we’ve just replaced high-street travel agents with online travel agents and, like their forefathers, these middlemen will look to cut the ticket and suggest you pay high prices for convenient extras (insurance , checked baggage, seat reservations…”

The expert added that booking early may not save you money, reports The Sun. Mr Martin added: “Recipients today are locked into non-refundable plans, hotel rooms and plane tickets even 12 months before departure, so the apparent discount comes with a significant penalty if you want or need to to change course’.

He continued: β€œAnd if market dynamics change – a rival airline adds seat capacity to a route or other seats and rooms don’t sell as well as they should – the price can drop to the same or lower than the early bird offers. “
