Leicester’s Shia community organizes a mourning procession in commemoration of Holy Ashura

The Shia community in Leicester, UK organized a Husseini mourning procession to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, on 10 Muharram.

This food procession was organized by the Leicester Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslim Community (MKSI) after a hiatus in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ali Abbas Rajani, the official organizer of the procession, said the Hussaini gathering started from Humberstone Gate in the city, passed through the East Gates and High Street and ended in Jubilee Square.

Rajani added that the procession was attended by hundreds of mourners who walked long distances chanting slogans expressing their love and loyalty to Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

He concluded that Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, is a symbol of inspiration for all people, stating that Imam Hussein’s refusal to pledge allegiance to Yazid bin Muawiya embodies the values โ€‹โ€‹of justice and human rights that we should strive to achieve daily. lives.
