Coventry City have completed their fourth summer signing

Coventry City have completed the signing of Swedish international goalkeeper Oliver Dovin.

The 22-year-old joins the Sky Blues from Hammarby for an undisclosed fee, understood to be close to £1.6m upfront, according to reports in Sweden, making it one of the biggest ever for a top Swedish goalkeeper. Dovin has signed a four-year deal, subject to FA and international clearance.

He will link up with the rest of the squad on their return from Spain on Monday and could make his non-competitive debut for the Stevenage club on Tuesday night.

“We are very pleased to welcome Oliver to Coventry City,” said manager Mark Robins, who revealed the club had been tracking the player for some time.

“Oliver is a highly regarded goalkeeper whose progress we have followed for some time and will add quality and competition to our goalkeeping group.

“He is a strong physical presence in goal, a good shot stopper and able to distribute the ball well. We look forward to him joining us on his return from the pre-season tour next week and to working with him further.”

Although unconfirmed, the player is expected to take the vacant No.1 shirt previously worn by Simon Moore, who left the club for Sunderland on a free transfer this summer. Current holders Ben Wilson and Brad Collins continue to wear 13 and 40 respectively. Both kept clean sheets in tonight’s (Friday 19 July) goalless draw with Spanish side Getafe CF at Valencia when they played 45 minutes each.

A highly regarded shot stopper, Dovin rose through the ranks at Hammarby, making his senior debut in December 2020. Since then, he has played 84 times for the Swedish top-flight side, keeping 28 clean sheets in the process. He was part of the team that won the Swedish domestic cup in 2021 and also competed in the 2021/22 UEFA Conference League play-offs.

He became the first-choice goalkeeper in 2022 and soon after earned his first full international cap. After representing Sweden at youth level, he made his full international debut in January 2023 against Iceland and made another appearance for his national team this year against Estonia.
