Aston Villa revive interest in Kelechi Iheanacho

Seven-time English Premier League winners Aston Villa have resumed their pursuit of former Manchester City and Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international has spent the last seven years at Leicester City, winning the FA Cup, FA Community Shield and EFL Championship. However, he is looking for a new challenge with more playing time.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are looking for an ideal back-up for England striker Ollie Watkins and Iheanacho fits the bill. The West Midlands club were previously linked with Iheanacho earlier this summer, but talks have cooled.

However, according to Birmingham Live, the move has resurfaced as Villa enter the final six weeks of the transfer window.

Aston Villa have been active in the transfer market, making six signings and are expected to make more moves before the window closes. Iheanacho’s experience and quality on the ball make him an attractive option for Villa, who are looking for a striker proven content to play second fiddle.

The former Manchester City man has an impressive record, contributing 95 goals in 232 appearances for Leicester City. He is also the first player to have a goal awarded by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in English football.

Aston Villa’s interest in Iheanacho is not surprising given his ability to score crucial goals and provide creativity on the pitch. If the deal goes through, Iheanacho will join a talented Villa squad looking to make an impact in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Aston Villa would also be open to allowing Colombian striker Jhon Duran to leave for free if they receive a suitable offer. Duran has been linked with Chelsea and West Ham and his departure could pave the way for Iheanacho’s arrival.

Aston Villa’s renewed interest in Kelechi Iheanacho signals their intention to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. With his experience and quality, Iheanacho could be the perfect addition to Unai Emery’s side.
