Higgins gains 360 jobs in new homes in south London

Somerleyton Road New Housing Plan

>Higgins has struck a deal with London’s Lambeth Council to build over 360 new homes in the heart of Brixton.

The council is set to work with Higgins on the second phase of the Somerleyton Road development under proposals for a net-zero development of 363 new homes, of which 195 homes would be affordable.

This is still subject to planning permission being granted. Pre-planning work and resident engagement is due to start in autumn 2024. The scheme could cost more than £120 million to deliver.

The first smaller stage of Somerleyton Road was delivered by Galliford Try two years ago and included the building of the new Brixton House theater and the refurbishment of Carlton Mansions.

Declan Higgins, Chief Executive at Higgins Group added: “We understand the Council’s objectives for the accelerated delivery of affordable homes and are committed to working with local residents and stakeholders to create affordable, sustainable communities that meet local housing needs.

“We are committed to engaging with the community throughout the design process and will deliver significant initiatives of social value, focused on the needs of local residents, including training and employment, volunteering and community support.
