West Kirby RNLI assist four people and dog cut off by wave on Middle Eye – Birkenhead News

On Sunday 21st July, HM Coastguard requested the assistance of RNLI West Kirby to help four people and a dog cut off by a wave on Middle Eye following a call from RNLI lifeguards.

West Kirby RNLI was tasked by the Coastguard on Sunday morning following a call from RNLI lifeguards reporting that four people and a dog were stranded on Middle Eye. The RNLI charity volunteers launched within 15 minutes of receiving the request for assistance.

After spotting the casualties on Middle Eye, the three crew members transferred the party to the D class inshore lifeboat and brought them safely to shore at the north end of West Kirby Marine Lake. All were injured and no medical attention was required.

The lifeboat then returned to Sandy Lane ramp for recovery by Hagglund launch vehicle BV206, before returning to station to be cleaned and fueled ready for service.

Andy Brown, RNLI launch authority at West Kirby, said“If you are visiting Hilbre or any of the islands please check the Wirral Council website for high tide times, however, as a general rule we would advise starting to walk back to West Kirby three hours before high water.

“Always be aware of the tide, it doesn’t flood in a straight line and it can surround you quickly. Please remember to have a means of communication and do not hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard the moment you think you or anyone else may be in danger, we are always happy to help.”
