Bradford City are ready to offload Ash Taylor

Bradford City are ready to offload Ash Taylor this summer, according to a report in the Telegraph & Argus.

Bradford City have deemed the centre-back surplus to requirements as they prepare for the 2024/25 League Two season. The Yorkshire outfit missed out on the play-offs last season and will be eyeing promotion to League One next year.

Taylor, 33, is under contract at Valley Parade until the summer of 2025, meaning he has over a year left on his contract. However, he has slipped down the pecking order of late under former Salford City and MK Dons boss Graham Alexander.

In this latest update on his situation by the Telegraph & Argus, he has been told he has “no future” at Bradford City and will be allowed to walk out the exit door in the next two months. He was made available for transfer for other teams to come in.

Cutting ties with Taylor would be a sensible decision by the Bantams as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.

The veteran has fallen out of favor and there’s no point in having him on the books if he’s not going to play a lot.

He was brought in by former manager Mark Hughes last year to add more competition and depth to their defensive department.

However, he has since struggled for game time and made just 17 competitive appearances, 12 of which came in the league.

Taylor is an experienced player and has amassed over 550 games in his career to date, so he could be an attractive proposition for other clubs in need of a new defender.

The former Wales youth international rose through the ranks at Tranmere Rovers and has since had spells at Aberdeen, Northampton Town, Walsall and Kilmarnock.

Bradford City need to get back into the third tier and a club of their size should not be in the bottom division.

Alexander’s side finished this past campaign in decent form and will need to carry that momentum into the next one.

Taylor’s time with them looks set to come to an end soon and his imminent departure would free up space and funds to bring in other reinforcements to add more quality and depth to their ranks.
