Aston Villa can raise £200m from sales as Unai Emery continues to reshape squad

Aston Villa will raise around £130m from player sales this summer once Moussa Diaby completes his move to Al-Ittihad and more departures are expected from Unai Emery’s side in the coming weeks.

Douglas Luiz left for around £42m so the club could stay within the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), while Tim Iroegbunam joined Everton for up to £13m, and Omari Kellyman has signed for Chelsea in a £19m deal. Academy graduate Sebastian Revan left Villa for Wrexham last Monday, days before goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo left for Celtic in a deal worth around £1m.

In a separate deal to move Luiz to Juventus, Villa signed Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior for around £18.5m, while Ian Maatsen arrived from Chelsea for £37.5m sterling. Lewis Dobbin was the first player to sign this summer, joining from Everton for £9m, with Ross Barkley the most recent signing, costing £5m from Luton Town.

Jaden Philogene’s return to Villa was announced last week after Villa activated a ‘rights to match’ clause following Ipswich’s initial £18m bid. Villa are essentially only paying £13m for the 22-year-old as they also have a 30% sell-on clause.

Amadou Onana is expected to become Villa’s seventh signing of the summer after Everton agreed a £50million deal. The Belgian is due to be announced by the club after having a medical at the weekend.

Last year Villa splashed the cash on Diaby and Pau Torres, while Youri Tielemans was signed on a free and Nicolo Zaniolo and Clement Lenglet later joined on loan for the duration of the campaign. Villa suffered two ACL injuries at the start of the season – to key men Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia – and will be hoping for better injury luck going forward as the club look to compete at the top of the league table and in the Champions League.
